Trauma & PTSD
Trauma can arise in us as a result of many different life experiences, and will present somewhat differently in all of us. Psychological trauma is an emotional response to a disturbing or distressing event or situation that breaks your sense of security. Traumatic experiences often involve a direct threat to life or safety, but this is not always the case. Trauma can result from many experiences that may leave us feeling overwhelmed, numb, or isolated. Everyone’s emotional response is unique. While some people will naturally recover with time, others may continue to experience trauma and stress-related symptoms.
Some of the common symptoms of trauma or PTSD that individuals may experience days, weeks, months, or even years after a traumatic experience can include:
- Anxiety / Depression
- Flashbacks
- Avoidance
- Anger
- Panic attacks
- Emotional numbness
- Relationship issues
- Struggles with daily functioning
- Dissociation
I offer a variety of treatment modalities in working with trauma. These include but are not limited to Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, Developmental Resourcing, Mindfulness Therapies, and Somatic Experiencing. Each person’s situation is unique, and therapies are tailor to individual needs and goals.
